Overview

The Ranger fights with a bow from 20 m away. All of his buffs only affect himself, so a party judges him purely by his damage.

His strongest hit is Deadshot, a shot with three charge levels. Fully charged it hits three times as hard as uncharged, and under [Lethality] from Marking Shot another 35% harder.

Strengths

  • 20 m range for almost every attack
  • Many skills usable while moving
  • Tags monsters very quickly, strong at open-world farming
  • Slow, root and stun in the kit

Weaknesses

  • Weak early on and heavily gear-dependent
  • High MP consumption
  • Little defence, no invulnerability
  • No party buffs

How the Ranger works

Three building blocks

  1. Fully charge Deadshot. Three charge levels (0.5, 1 and 1.5 s; with the speed specialisation 0.35, 0.7 and 1.05 s). Holding the key fires it fully charged every time it’s ready. Base cooldown 20 s.
  2. Keep Lethality up. Marking Shot gives 10 s of [Lethality]: +300 critical hit and +35% damage for Deadshot. With the specialisation it’s 15 s. Recast it about 2 s before it expires.
  3. Bring Deadshot back faster. Snipe, your left click, regenerates MP. With its specialisation from level 12, every hit of the chain shortens Deadshot’s cooldown by 1 s.

Marking Shot moves you. Standing still, the Ranger does a somersault on the spot; holding a direction key, a jump in that direction. Good for repositioning, but when refreshing it mid-fight don’t hold a direction if you want to stay put.

Active skills and specialisations

Points raise a skill to level 10; Daevanion nodes, ring and Arcana lines go beyond that. Specialisation slots open at skill levels 8 and 12; the option at 16 takes one of them until level 20 opens the third. Resets are free.

Hotbar and macro

The basics of the macro system are in the Assassin guide. The Ranger holds three keys: Snipe, the macro key and Deadshot on its own key. Held, Deadshot fires fully charged as soon as it’s ready.

Macro key, held

Read the lowest skill of a block; it fires first. Burst Arrow only hits slowed or rooted targets and waits in its row until Snare Shot lands. Tempest Shot always goes on top, never below Drill Dart.

Buffs in the macro or not? One setup puts the three buffs in as the third macro entry. The other presses them by hand so they aren’t wasted when the boss disappears or a mechanic is running. disputed

Never in the macro: Marking Shot (long animation, only press it shortly before Lethality expires) and Deadshot (a macro step doesn’t charge it fully).

Skill queue: One side recommends leaving it on, because otherwise Marking Shot and charged Deadshots get lost. The other plays without it and advises comparing both on the training dummy. disputed

Rotation on the boss

  1. Buffs while the tank pulls: Vaizel’s Authority, Supporting Fire, Bow of Blessing. They don’t attack the boss.
  2. Marking Shot for Lethality, then Gale Arrow for Whirlwind.
  3. Deadshot fully charged.
  4. Hold three keys: Snipe, macro key, Deadshot. The macro fires Drill Dart after crits, Snare Shot and then Burst Arrow, Gale Arrow and the fire arrow.
  5. Refresh Lethality about 2 s before it runs out.
  6. Situational: Hold Arrow Scattershot instead of Snipe while the boss is staggered.

Levelling 1–45

General levelling rules are in the tips. For the Ranger:

  • Level 1–13: Snipe and Tempest Shot first. Keep shooting Snipe between skills; every hit brings MP. MP problems early on: take the “MP regeneration +20%” specialisation and swap it later.
  • Grow the macro along: Drill Dart row from level 4, Gale Arrow from 7.
  • Level 14: Deadshot on its own key, and hold it.
  • Around level 25: With two board nodes, Snipe reaches level 12; then equip “Deadshot −1 s”.
  • Stigmas: Vaizel’s Authority first, then the others, each to 5 when the next slot opens.
  • Questing: Gather groups with Explosion Trap (“pull in” specialisation), then Tempest Shot. Keep moving: if a group catches the Ranger, he dies quickly.
  • Farming: Put Tempest Shot on its own easy-to-reach key. It tags monsters from 20 m with no cooldown; Deadshot is too slow for farming.

Daevanion boards

Buy the nodes in this order on each board. Route calculated from the Global client; crystal amounts as for every class (about 136 from levelling, 316 with district quests and sealed dungeons, 366 with the Nightmare shop).

How to read the boards

  • Every board starts at the starting node in the centre. You can only buy a node that sits directly above, below, left or right of a node you already own; diagonals don't count.
  • Nodes cost 1 to 4 Daevanion points. The grey ones give small base stats, the coloured ones give stronger stats or an extra level for a skill.
  • The numbers are the recommended buying order. The highlighted nodes in between are the cheapest path there; you pick them up along the way.
  • Click an entry or a number: the map shows the route up to that point and explains what the node gives.

PvP

You fight at 20 m: keep your distance, slow enemies and land Deadshot under Lethality. You have no invulnerability; Mother Nature’s Breath, Ambush Kick and Defiance keep you alive.

  1. Slow: Snare Shot lowers movement speed by 40% for 5 s, Burst Arrow then hits, and Drill Dart’s bleed lowers the target’s healing by 60%.
  2. Marking Shot, then Deadshot right away, with Vaizel’s Authority and Bow of Blessing active. A tap fires instantly; a full charge leaves you open for 1.5 s. Charge when the enemy can’t reach you. disputed
  3. Mother Nature’s Breath when the enemy comes for you: more PvP damage resistance and crit resistance for 6 s.
  4. Ambush Kick or Explosion Trap when a melee player reaches you: the kick puts you behind the target, knocks it away and jumps you clear.

Common mistakes

Tapping Deadshot

Always charge it fully in PvE. Uncharged it only hits a third as hard.

Marking Shot in the macro

The animation is long. Only press it by hand, shortly before Lethality expires.

Shooting without buffs

First the three buff stigmas, then Marking Shot and Gale Arrow, then Deadshot.

Drill Dart doesn’t fire

It needs one of your own critical hits in the last 3 s, so it waits for the first crit.

Held key stops responding

After holding for a long time, the game pauses the repeat. Release the keys and hold them again.

Status and method

Compiled from Global client data, NC’s announcements and the builds of experienced players, cross-checked across several German and English sources. Only what is confirmed goes in; where experienced players disagree, both positions are given.
